UnitedHealth Group Inc. forms and operates markets for the exchange of health and well being services. Through its family of businesses, the Company helps people achieve optimal health and well being through all stages of life. The Company's revenues are derived from premium revenues on insured (risk-based) products, fees from management, administrative and consulting services and investment and other income. It conducts its business primarily through operating divisions in the following business segments: Uniprise; Healthcare Services, which includes the Company's UnitedHealthcare and Ovations businesses; Specialized Care Services, and Ingenix.

UnitedHealth Group provides both comprehensive managed care services, such as HMO and carrier replacement products, and unbundled healthcare management and cost containment products and services. For the six months ended 6/30/02, revenues rose 5% to $12.09 billion. Net income rose 43% to $620 million. Revenues reflect growth in premium yield and people served in the commercial health benefit business. Earnings also reflect process improvement and cost control.
