Business Description
The Talbots, Inc. is a national specialty retailer and cataloger of women's, children's and men's apparel, accessories and shoes. In addition to its core Misses business, the Company's other business concepts are Talbots Petites, Talbots Kids, Talbots Accessories & Shoes, Talbots Woman, Talbots Woman Petites, Talbots Collection and Talbots Mens. The Company offers a collection of classic sportswear, casual wear, dresses, coats, sweaters, accessories and shoes, consisting almost exclusively of Talbots' own branded merchandise in misses, petites, woman's and woman's petite sizes. Talbots Kids offers an assortment of clothing and accessories for infants, toddlers, boys and girls, while Talbots Mens offers a line of men's sportswear and dress furnishings. At December 31, 2003, the Company operated 977 stores, opening net of 91 new stores and issued 26 separate catalogs. Talbots also offers online merchandise at www.talbots.com.

Financial Information
For the 39 weeks ended 10/30/04, revenues increased 5% to $1.25 billion. Net income decreased 3% to $80.4 million. Revenues reflect sales from the 26 new stores opened in the first half of 2004 and higher comparable store sales. Earnings were offset by an increase in selling, general and administrative expenses.
