Business Description
The Timberland Company designs, develops, engineers, markets and distributes, under the Timberland and Timberland PRO brands, footwear, apparel and accessories products for men, women and children. The Company's products are sold primarily through independent retailers, better-grade department stores, athletic stores and other national retailers. In addition, its products are sold through Timberland specialty stores, Timberland factory outlet stores, timberland.com and franchisees in Europe. The products are sold throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. The Company's products fall into two primary groups: footwear and apparel and accessories (including product care and licensed products).

Financial Information
For the nine months ended 10/1/04, revenues rose 13% to $1.05 billion. Net income rose 37% to $107.7 million. Revenues reflect favorable foreign exchange rates and strong sales of footwear products in the men's and women's casual, boots, and kids' categories. Net income also reflects gross margin improvements and greater expense leverage.
