SunTrust Banks, Inc. is a financial holding company that provides deposit, credit, trust and investment services to a broad range of retail, business and institutional clients through its flagship subsidiary, SunTrust Bank. STI provides a full line of consumer and commercial banking services through 1,100 full-service banking offices in AL, FL, GA, MD, TN, VA and DC. For the six months ended 6/02, total interest income fell 23% to $2.59 billion. Net interest income after LLP fell 12% to $1.34 billion. Net income before extraordinary item fell 8% to $648.6 million. Results reflect lower interest-earning assets, partially offset by lower interest paid on deposits and higher service charges.
