The Southern Company (SOUTHERN) is a holding company for Alabama Power Company, Georgia Power Company, Gulf Power Company, Mississippi Power Company and Savannah Electric and Power Company, each of which is an operating public utility company. The operating companies supply electric service in the states of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi and Georgia, respectively. SOUTHERN also owns all the outstanding common stock of Southern LINC, Southern Nuclear, SCS, Southern Management Development (formerly Energy Solutions), Southern Telecom, Southern Power and other direct and indirect subsidiaries.

For the six months ended 6/30/02, revenues rose less than 1% to $4.84 billion. Net income from continuing operations before acct. change rose 24% to $555.7 million. Results reflect increased demand for electricity, and lower purchased power costs.
