Sky Financial Group, Inc. is a financial holding company that owns and operates Sky Bank, which is primarily engaged in the commercial and consumer banking business in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Michigan and West Virginia. Sky Bank provides its services through over 260 banking centers and 280 automated teller machines. Sky Financial's bank subsidiary concentrates on client service and business development, while relying upon the support of Sky Financial for operational functions. The Company also operates businesses relating to commercial finance lending, insurance, brokerage, trust and other financial-related services. The Company has historically been managed along three primary business lines: community banking, financial service affiliates and Sky Financial Solutions, Inc. (SFS). In March 2004, the Company sold SFS to MBNA Corporation, a bank holding company and parent of MBNA America Bank, N.A., a national bank.
Financial Information
For the nine months ended 9/30/04, interest income rose 7% to $475.8 million. Net interest income after loan provision rose 14% to $301 million. Net income from continuing operations rose 12% to $126.3M. Net interest income reflects higher earning assets and a lower cost of funds. Net income reflects higher merger expenses.
