Principal Financial Group, Inc. is a diversified financial services organization engaged in promoting retirement savings, investment and insurance products and services in the United States and selected international markets. The Company organizes its businesses into four operating segments. The U.S. Asset Management and Accumulation segment provides retirement and related financial products and services primarily to businesses, their employees and other individuals. The International Asset Management and Accumulation segment provides life insurance and retirement and related financial products and services primarily to businesses, their employees and other individuals. The Life and Health Insurance segment offers individual and group life insurance, group health insurance and individual and group disability insurance throughout the United States. The Mortgage Banking segment originates and services residential mortgage loan products for customers primarily in the United States.

PFG also offers life and health insurance and residential mortgages in the U.S. For the fiscal year ended 12/31/02, total revenues rose 3% to $8.82 billion. Net income from continuing operations before acct. change rose 63% to $619.9 million. Results reflect higher mortgage loan production fees and reduced reserve changes.
