Nike, Inc. is principally engaged in the design, development and worldwide marketing of footwear, apparel, equipment and accessory products. The Company is a seller of athletic footwear and athletic apparel worldwide. Nike sells its products to approximately 18,000 retail accounts in the United States and through a mix of independent distributors, licensees and subsidiaries in approximately 140 countries worldwide. Virtually all of its products are manufactured by independent contractors, and virtually all footwear products are produced outside the United States, while apparel products are produced both in the United States and abroad. The Company's athletic footwear products are designed primarily for specific athletic use, although a large percentage of the products are worn for casual or leisure purposes.

Nike, Inc. designs, develops and markets footwear, apparel, equipment and accessory products. For the three months ended 8/31/02, revenues rose 7% to $2.80 billion. Net income before accounting change increased 6% to $217.2 million. Revenues reflect an increase in apparel and footwear sales in the U.S. and Europe and equipment sales only in Europe. Earnings were partially offset by an increase in selling, general and administrative expenses.
