Business Description
National Fuel Gas Company is a diversified energy company with six business segments: Utility, Pipeline and Storage, Exploration and Production, International, Energy Marketing and Timber. Utility sells natural gas to retail customers and provides natural gas transportation services in New York and Pennsylvania. Pipeline and Storage transports and stores natural gas for utilities, natural gas marketers and pipeline companies in the United States. Exploration and Production is engaged in exploration for, and development and purchase of, natural gas and oil reserves in California, in the Appalachian region of the United States, in the Gulf Coast region of Texas and Louisiana and in Canada. International engages in foreign energy projects through the investment of its indirect subsidiaries. Energy Marketing markets natural gas to end users in New York and Pennsylvania. Timber has timber holdings in the northeastern United States and several sawmills and kilns in Pennsylvania.

Financial Information
For the fiscal year ended 9/30/04, revenues fell less than 1% to $2.03 billion. Net income before accounting change fell 11% to $166.6 million. Results reflect lower income from the Utility and Energy Marketing segments, and higher operation and maintenance costs.
