North Fork Bancorporation Inc. is a multi-bank holding company. The Company operates 171 branches in the New York metropolitan area, substantially all of which are branches of North Fork Bank (the Bank), a New York-chartered trust company and North Fork's primary subsidiary. The Bank provides a variety of banking and financial services to middle-market and small business organizations, local government units and retail banking customers in the greater New York metropolitan area. The Company's other subsidiaries offer financial services and related products, such as asset management, securities brokerage and sales of alternative investment products. North Fork's other banking subsidiary, Superior Savings of New England, N.A., is a nationally chartered bank that focuses on gathering deposits throughout the northeast United States.

NFB is a bank holding for North Fork Bank, which operates full-service branches in the metropolitan New York area. For the three months ended 3/31/03, interest income increased 5% to $296.6 million. Net interest income after loan loss provision rose 5% to $203.2 million. Net income increased 5% to $103.5 million. Net interest income reflects loan growth and lower interest on deposits. Earnings also reflect increased securities gains.
