Marshall & Ilsley Corporation (M&I) is a registered bank holding company, and is certified as a financial holding company. M&I's principal assets are the stock of its bank and nonbank subsidiaries, including Metavante Corporation, five bank and trust subsidiaries and a number of other companies. The Company has two reportable segments: Banking and Data Services (or Metavante). Banking consists of accepting deposits, making loans and providing other services such as cash management, foreign exchange and correspondent banking to a variety of commercial and retail customers. Data Services consists of providing data processing services, developing and selling software and providing consulting services to financial services companies, including M&I affiliates, as well as providing credit card merchant services. M&I's primary other business segments include Trust Services, Mortgage Banking, Capital Market Group, Brokerage and Insurance Services and Commercial Leasing.

Financial Information
For the six months ended 6/04, total interest income rose 1% to $787.1 million. Net interest income after loan loss prov. rose 13% to $544.4 million. Net income rose 13% to $297.8 million. Net interest income reflects higher average interest earning assets and decreased interest expenses. Net income reflects higher data processing services and deposit services fees.
