GTECH Holdings Corporation (Holdings) operates online lottery transaction processing systems and also has a presence in commercial services transaction processing. The Company's core market is the lottery industry, for which it designs, sells and operates a suite of lottery-enabled point-of-sale terminals that are electronically linked with a centralized transaction processing system, which mediates lottery funds between the retailer, where a transaction is enabled, and the lottery authority. As of February 28, 2004, Holdings operated, provided equipment and services to or has entered into contracts to operate or provide equipment and services in the future to 27 of the 41 online lottery authorities in the United States. The Company also operates, provides equipment and services to or has entered into contracts to operate or provide equipment and services in the future, to online lottery systems for 57 of the 113 international online lottery authorities.
