Electronic Arts Inc. is a global software company that operates in two principal business segments. The EA Core business segment comprises the creation, marketing and distribution of entertainment software, while the EA.com business segment is composed of the creation, marketing and distribution of entertainment software that can be played or sold online, ongoing management of subscriptions of online games and Website advertising. On February 28, 2001, EA.com acquired Pogo Corporation (Pogo). Pogo operates an ad-supported games service that reaches a broad consumer market. Pogo's Internet-based family games focus on easy-to-play card, board and puzzle games.
Financial Information
ERTS creates, markets and distributes interactive entertainment software for a variety of hardware platforms. For the three months ended 6/30/02, revenues increased 82% to $331.9 million. Net income totaled $7.4 million vs. a loss of $45.3 million. Revenues reflect increased sales on the PlayStation 2, the PC, the recently launched Xbox and Nintendo GameCube platforms. Net income also reflects improved operating margins driven by revenue growth and cost reductions.
