Business Description
The DIRECTV Group, Inc. provides communication services and develops a range of entertainment, information and communication services for home and business use, including video, data, voice, multimedia and Internet services. Its principal operations are carried out through four businesses organized in three segments, which are direct-to-home broadcast, satellite service and network systems. The Direct-To-Home Broadcast segment consists of the DIRECTV digital multi-channel entertainment businesses located in the United States and Latin America. PanAmSat Corporation constitutes the Satellite Services segment, and Hughes Network Systems, Inc. constitutes the Network Systems segment. In August 2004, the Company's subsidiary, DIRECTV, Inc., acquired the primary direct broadcast satellite assets of Pegasus Satellite Television, Inc., which includes the rights to all DIRECTV subscribers activated through Pegasus.

Financial Information
For the nine months ended 9/30/04, revenues rose 21% to $8.00 billion. Net loss from continuing opts. and before accounting change rose from $68 million to $768 million. Results reflect a larger subscriber base and gains on the sale of XM Satellite stock, offset by asset impairment charges.
