Dollar General Corporation is a discount retailer of quality general merchandise at everyday low prices. Through conveniently located stores, the Company offers a focused assortment of consumable basic merchandise including health and beauty aids, packaged food products, home cleaning supplies, housewares, stationery, seasonal goods, basic clothing and domestics. Dollar General stores serve primarily low-, middle- and fixed-income families. As of March 15, 2002, the Company operated 5,620 stores in 27 states, primarily in the southeastern and Midwestern United States.

DG is a discount retailer of general merchandise at everday low prices through 5,620 stores located primarily in small towns in the midwestern and southeastern U.S. For the six months ended 8/2/02, sales rose 17% to $2.84 billion. Net income rose 39% to $88.3 million. Revenues reflect the addition of 563 net new stores and a 8.1% increase in same-store sales. Net income also reflects a higher gross profit due to a decrease in distribution and transportation costs.
