Business Description
Diebold, Incorporated is primarily engaged in the manufacture, sale, installation and service of automated self-service transaction systems, electronic and physical security products, election systems and software. The Company operates three business segments: Diebold North America (DNA), Diebold International (DI) and Election Systems and Other. The DNA segment sells financial and retail systems, and also services financial, retail and medical systems in the United States and Canada. The DI segment sells and services financial and retail systems over the remainder of the globe. The Election Systems and Other segment includes the operating results of Diebold Election Systems, Inc., a manufacturer and supplier of elections systems. Its primary customers include banks and financial institutions, as well as hospitals, colleges and universities, public libraries, government agencies, utilities and various retail outlets.

Financial Information
For the nine months ended 9/30/04, net sales rose 14% to $1.66 billion. Net income rose 5% to $121.2 million. Results reflect higher financial self-service product revenues resulting from market growth, partially offset by higher SG&A expenses.
