CenturyTel, Inc. is a regional integrated communications company engaged primarily in providing local exchange telephone services and wireless communications services. At December 31, 2001, the Company's local exchange telephone subsidiaries operated approximately 1.8 million telephone access lines, primarily in rural, suburban and small urban areas in 21 states. At December 31, 2001, the Company's majority owned and operated cellular systems served approximately 797,000 customers in 19 Metropolitan Statistical Areas and 22 Rural Service Areas in Michigan, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Wisconsin, and Texas, and had access to approximately 7.8 million cellular pops (the estimated population of licensed cellular telephone markets multiplied by the Company's proportionate equity interest in the licensed operators). CenturyTel also provides long distance, Internet access, competitive local exchange carrier, broadband data, security monitoring, and other services.

For the six months ended 6/30/02, revenues rose 5% to $861.6 million. Net income from continuing operations and applicable to Common rose 74% to $82.9 million. Revenues reflect higher long distance and internet revenues and lower plant operation, corporate, depreciation, amortization and interest expenses.
