CIGNA Corporation and its subsidiaries are an investor-owned employee benefits organizations in the United States. Its subsidiaries are major providers of employee benefits offered through the workplace, including health care products and services, group life, accident and disability insurance, retirement products and services and investment management. CIGNA's operating divisions include Employee Health Care, Life and Disability Benefits, CIGNA Group Insurance, Employee Retirement Benefits and Investment Services, and International Life, Health and Employee Benefits. The Company's Other Operations include the recognition of deferred gains on the sales of CIGNA's individual life insurance and annuity business and reinsurance business, and the results of CIGNA's retained reinsurance business, corporate life insurance business, settlement annuity business, and non-insurance operations.
CIGNA Corporation provides insurance and related financial services including life/health, managed care, annuity, retirement and investment products. For the six months ended 6/30/02, total revenues rose 4% to $9.80 billion. Net income fell 18% to $432 million. Revenues reflect higher HMO and medical indemnity premium fees. Net income reflects increased realized investment losses and the absence of income from the Japanese life insurance operation.
